Grow with Me, Jessie

Grow With Me, Jessie began out of the need to learn to live deliberately. After years of unreasonable expectations of myself and the world around me, I began photographing deliberately as a means to obtain that of which I wanted most in life. My work started in a child-like place of thoughtfully staged safety, colorful and vibrant and alluring and appealing. I wanted to reel the viewer in, and give them a sense of hope as I was learning to give myself. I dared to dream as I had never before, and I wanted that experience to be shared with the viewer.
As my aspirations grew larger and I started living in a more deliberate way, I knew I was experiencing the hopefulness in my work seep into my everyday life.
Now, my work finds grounding between the dreams of everlasting youth and the harsh reality of adulthood. Juxtaposing these themes, my work creates unease and nostalgia while simultaneously evoking a contradictory sense of hopefulness and curiosity that is often assimilated as something we must learn to leave behind as we age.
