Crystal McBrayer, photographer and educator, grew up in the Appalachian mountains, running through grass with bare feet, being stung by wasps, fishing the narrow creeks with sticks and twine, and digging her hands in the rich, black dirt. She received a BS in photography from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and an MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. She has been actively involved in SPE since 2003, volunteering for conferences, reviewing student work, and presenting at conferences. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, given lectures, and taught workshops throughout the country. Crystal has taught photography at Shorter College and the University of Arkansas. She is currently a working artist in Boise, ID.
