Began taking photos in high school, started freelance business in 1996 and teaching in 2008. Currently earning a degree in Art History from Saddleback College. I have explored various cultures through documentary projects within India (3x), Canada (2x), Mexico and the United States, in film and digital platforms. I have worked with several civic and non-profit organizations, including the NAACP-Long Beach and LA's BEST after-school program. I love the history of photography, collecting monographs and I enjoy using rangefinder cameras (Leica M6, M8, Canonet QLVII, Mamiya 6 and others). One of my favorite movies is "Lost Horizon" by Frank Capra. Helmut Gernsheim, John Canaday, Eve Arnold, James Nachtwey and Marion Post-Wolcott (FSA) are some inspirations, and I owe much to my mentors such as Leigh Stocker at the now-closed Terry's Camera of Long Beach. I met some great teachers and fellow artists at the recent Las Vegas 2016 conference, and I came away with many new ideas and friends. My website is chrisleephotographic.com. Shoot me an email anytime and let's connect. If you live in Southern California, let's meet up.
