about
Britt Thomas is a lens-based multidisciplinary artist residing in Houston, Texas. While she believes in a concept-driven studio practice, she primarily employs photography and video due to their ability to simultaneously reflect and manipulate reality. She is motivated by the uncanny possibilities that familiar subjects have when they are rendered unfamiliar through concept, design and presentation.
Thomas received her BFA in studio art from Lamar University and her MFA from the University of Houston where she is currently an instructor within the photography and digital media program. Thomas is co-founder of The Lens Capsule, a mobile exhibition space for emerging lens-based artists that was custom designed and built to be installed inside the back of a rental truck. She is a 2018 recipient of the Houston Arts Alliance's SAIC projet-based artist grant, currently collaborating with composer Joel Love on an immersive light and sound installation. Thomas' 1,400 square foot mural, Metallographic Cosmos, is installed in the George R. Brown Convention Center as part of the City of Houston's public art collection.
