Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars

This series was created by searching though our cultural scrapbooks, collecting a set of images that at times confuse, and at other times invite viewers to see covert meanings and consequences of how society images women. The images are photograms of magazine pages, the front and back merge together to create a third reversed, distorted image. These re-representations are found objects--chance defines their very existence--however, directed searching and collecting brought them into their current state. This exhibition was a deconstruction of the representation of women within our culture and the exploration of other modes of functioning as a women beyond the printed page.
