Michelle Murphy: Shimmering Schemata
Shimmering Schemata is Michelle Murphy's first solo exhibition at 2731 Prospect. Murphy works primarily in photography to engage with a thought-provoking mix of issues including beauty and female identity, consumerism and our collective relationship to the Media.
In her vividly colorful photographs, Murphy makes this art/beauty/commerce connection as she draws a visual parallel between crisply displayed blocks of colorful eye shadows and geometric Op Art painting. Her tiny eye shadow palettes reproduced at a greatly enhanced scale and multiplied in repeating patterns, lose their original significance and gain new meanings.
