Kris Sanford: Through the Lens of Desire
Related Member: Kris Sanford
Through the Lens of Desire, uses carefully cropped snapshots from the 1920s-1950s to create implied narratives and an imaginary LGBT past.
"The issue the project touches on is how people lived in the closet in that period of time to highlight a gay couple in the 1930s or the 1950s would not have been photographed together in an open and loving manor," Sanford says. "I'm creating this imaginary history with these pictures. The figures are anonymous because I'm not suggesting those individuals are gay, it's like I'm creating fictional characters through the images I use."
