Stories are the best way to bridge our experiences with other people. The artist statement is often the only opportunity for an audience to connect with a photographer, outside of the images they see. While there are plenty of arguments about the necessity of statements, there is no escaping them. People see photographs and naturally want to know more about the person who made them. By understanding and utilizing your personal story, you can write statements more easily, and more effectively answer the question, “Why did you make these?”
