FotoFika's All Stars Trading Card project
An announcement at the February 18, 2021 Town Hall about Fotofika's All Star Trading Card project generated the question of how to get a deck of cards into library collections. Remember that public colleges and universities follow their state's accounting regulations and many have strict guidelines about payment of materials prior to receiving the physical or digital copy. Keep in mind that each state has unique procurement processes. In the early days of PayPal, some states were quick to accept the guidelines and restrictions while Colorado was cautious in reviewing the payment and refund agreement. Check with your library's art librarian or head of acquisitions to confirm what is permissible. If your library does not have a special collections or archives reading room to support security and access, work with your art librarian to see if a deck of cards can be put on reserve in the circulation department. Having a process in place to assist with the deck being returned is important in planning circulation and access of an artistic work with many individual and small pieces. Often, teaching faculty will purchase a project of this nature and make it available during class.
