The Elizabeth River Project

"The Living River," an exhibition juried by James Warwick Jones, will open at Nauticus for The Elizabeth River Project's re-imagined Elizabeth RIVERFest on Sept. 12, 2015. Selected pieces may travel to other area galleries through October 31, 2015. RIVERFest is an outdoor festival that attracts over 4,000. The non-profit Elizabeth River Project, with a mission to restore the environmental health of the Elizabeth River, is inviting artists to participate who have the capacity to inspire appreciation for the Elizabeth River and its stewardship. Among cash prizes offered, a special prize will recognize the piece that best reflects the sub-theme, "Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River: Reclaiming the Lost Branch."

Requirements

Artists (age 18+) may submit up to two works of two-dimensional art. Only original works of art, completed in the last two to four years, may be entered. Art must reflect the theme, "The Living River," appreciating the wonder of area rivers and the urgency for their restoration. Selected works will be determined by the RIVERFest Art Committee of the Elizabeth River Project.

Two-dimensional works must be framed and ready for hanging with hook eyes and wire. No saw-tooth hangers or wet paint will be accepted. Accepted work must remain for the duration of the show, 5p.m., Sept. 12. Sizes should not exceed a width of 48", and height of 60". If there are any questions regarding size or presentation, please contact Robin Dunbar, 757-392-7132 - rdunbar@elizabethriver.org. Artists should submit digital JPG images via email for each artwork by 5:00 p.m., Aug. 31, 2015 to rdunbar@elizabethriver.org. Digital images should be between 1-2 Mb. Label each image: last name, first initial, title, size of artwork, jpg (ex: da Vinci, L. Mona, 20x24.jpg).

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $35.00. Artists are invited, but not required, to offer accepted works for sale during the exhibition with 30% of proceeds to be distributed to the Elizabeth River Project for its mission of environmental restoration.

Third Place: $150
Special Award, "Eastern Branch, Rediscovering the Lost Branch of the Elizabeth": $200

Evaluation Criteria

Awards will be determined solely by the juror, James Warwick Jones, Gallery Manager, Charles H. Taylor Arts Center, Hampton, VA. James Warwick Jones is a realist painter who was born in Hampton, Virginia.
